Mexico Drone Regulations
Mexico regulates drones through the DGAC under the Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes (SICT). Regulations vary by drone weight category with different requirements for micro, small, and large drones.
Weight Categories
Micro (under 2kg): minimal regulation, recreational use. Small (2-25kg): registration required, insurance recommended. Large (over 25kg): requires operating certificate and insurance.
Registration for Small Drones
Drones weighing 2-25kg must be registered with the DGAC. Registration is done online. Most FPV racing and freestyle drones fall under the micro category (under 2kg) and do not require registration.
Operating Requirements
Maximum altitude of 120 meters (400 feet). Visual line of sight required. No flying over crowds, near airports, or government buildings. Night flying prohibited without authorization.
Restrictions
- No flying above 120 meters (400 feet) AGL
- No flying within 9.2 km of airports
- No flying over crowds, stadiums, or public events
- No flying near military installations or government buildings
- Night flying requires special authorization
- No flying in national parks without SEMARNAT authorization
